God Will Never Change

Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.  James 1:17 Discover God Study Bible (NLT)
God never changes.  He is the same loving, compassionate, merciful, and saving God that He was yesterday and since the beginning of time.  His mercy endures forever.  He has more patience and steadfastness than we could ever imagine.
That is great news!  There is immense security in the fact that He will always be as He has said. That means that we can believe what the Bible says and that the promises He has made are true.  His eternal plans give us purpose and significance.  His unchangeable ways will provide steady and firm guidance all our days.  His knowledge and wisdom are vast and will not increase or decrease and his unchanging word equips us with timeless truth.

His Promises and Commandments Never Change Either
God does not change which means His promises never change.  The promises that He made that were written in the Bible all those years ago are still true.  He does not change the rules of the game in mid play.  He stands by His word, which also means that His laws and commandments do not change either.  Sometimes we try to modify the word of God to fit our lives and circumstances.  Sometimes we just make it say what we want it to say.  But if God is the same yesterday, today and forever, and His promises are the same yesterday, today and forever, then His laws and commandments mean exactly what He said they mean all those years ago.  God does not give us a pass on sins when we have had a hard day, week, month, year, or life.  He does not understand if we fudge the rules a little because we have a bad marriage or we have no money and our kids are hungry and we steal to feed them.  Sin is sin and although He understands our struggles and burdens, He still expects us to follow His commandments if we are His children.  Does that mean we are not forgiven when we fall?  No of course not.  It just means we don’t get permission to disobey because of extenuating circumstances.
So, if God never changes and His promises never change, then we have to take His commands and guidelines at face value.  They mean exactly what they say and we cannot twist them and change them to fit our agenda or to make us feel better about our sin that we are consciously committing.  Because if we can change His commands then we cannot believe that He is the same yesterday, today and forever, and we cannot believe the promises He made.

We live in a world that is always changing.  A lot of those changes are negative, like prices changing because most of the time they only go up!  I am so thankful for a Heavenly Father that I know I can trust in and I know I can believe the promises He made. He is my safe haven, my shelter, my security and peace. No matter how unstable and ever changing this world is, we can be assured that God will not change.
