Although we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nurse nurtures her own children. We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us. 1 THESSALONIANS 2:7–8, CSB
A Compassionate, Gracious, and Merciful God
You have heard, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” When we display the love of Christ to others and build relational capital, we begin tilling the soil of their hearts to not only hear the good news but to experience it through our own lives and friendship. Sharing the gospel is not less than a verbal proclamation or announcement, but it is more. We share the good news of Jesus in word while sharing our lives.
Jesus has a love for us that is like no other. He has more patience with us than we could ever imagine, remaining compassionate and gracious beyond comprehension. He is longsuffering, not easily becoming offended or outraged with us. He has love for us – to a thousand generations – that we can never fathom. He forgives our sin and rebellion over and over. This gospel speaks of God’s compassion, forgiveness, graciousness, and love for the world. Those who hear and believe will know that they are loved and cared for by a Heavenly Father whose love continues from generation to generation.
This week, as you look for opportunities to verbally share Christ, don’t neglect a key aspect of evangelism where you’re sharing yourself as well. Share your joys, your struggles and your life with those you are trying to reach for Christ. Share how God’s compassion and graciousness have changed your life. How will you share your life and the gospel with your one this week?
Who's Your One Prayer Guide Day 16
The Lord—the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. EXODUS 34:6-7, CSB
God, I know You as One who is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. You have shown these characteristics to me time and time again. My heart breaks for the countless number of men and women who haven’t experienced Your character as I have. In particular, I pray for ______________. I know he/she has some concepts of who You are—many of them probably inadequate or altogether faulty. I want him/her to know You as You truly are. Cause _______________ to see You as the great God You are, and use me to reflect your attributes.
