Not Me God

Thursday, March 17, 2022 Some material taken from The Making of a Leader Part 2

“But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’ And God said, ‘I will be with you.’” Exodus 3:11

Not Me God

God met Moses in the desert and told him what He wanted him to do. Moses had the same reaction we have many times when we feel called by God to do something that we think we cannot do. And we cannot do it – in our own power. Moses learned he could do what God called him to do with God’s help.

Moses was caught up on what he thought he could not do instead of believing that God would equip him to do what He was calling him to do. He struggled to get past the “Who am I” stage and hear God saying to him “I will be with you.”

God is greater than our inadequacies, lack of experience, or talent. In Him we can do anything He desires for us to do. The problem is a matter of obedience. Will we believe that God will help us and step out in faithful obedience? God uses people like you and me – and Moses – to show His power and might to the world. He often takes people who are not prepared or trained out of unlikely settings and uses them in powerful ways for His kingdom. Moses was a murderer at one time. I am sure he thought his life was over and that he would spend forever tending sheep in the desert. But despite his mistakes God used him in a mighty way for His glory.

Sovereign God, who knows all things, in His power and grace calls us. He also equips us for His purposes. When we feel like we are not equipped for the job, we can rest in the knowledge that He is. He reveals to us everything we need to know when we need to know! We can have the confidence we need to do the job He calls us to do because we trust in Him.

When God calls us, He calls us for His purpose and glory – not for our own purpose and glory. It is not about us. It is always about Him. He has a job for us and a plan to carry out His purpose. What a privilege to be called. He is God. He can do anything He wants to do, but He chooses to invite us into His plan to carry out His purpose, giving us everything we need to make it happen. When He calls you, don't shrink back and tell Him you can't do it. Remember you are His child, and if He honors you by calling you, He will equip you and be with you.
