The Path of Discipleship Part 1

Just before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave instructions to the apostles that outlines what He expected them and those who followed them to do – make disciples. This act of making disciples is what we call discipleship.
The Disciples were first called “Christians” because they acted like Christ.
  1. I. The Scope of Discipleship
  • If you are a Christian, you are a disciple.
  • The Access of Discipleship is Authority.
  • The authority of Christ is the disciple’s entrance into the work of discipleship.
  • Both the disciple and discipled are learning from each other at the same time.
  • The Work of Discipleship is Duplication.
  • Being a disciple is to operate in the same way your master would operate, so much so, that you could be mistaken for being your master.
  1. II. The Methodology of Discipleship
  • Disciples Go
  • Going is all about spreading the good news
  • Disciples Baptize
  • The word baptism deals with identification
  • Disciples Teach
  • Discipleship teaching is not information only, rather it is observation. –
  1. III. The Promise of Discipleship
  • When you are making disciples, the power of Jesus is present.
  1. IV. The Means of Discipleship

  • You are God’s means of making disciples.
  • No one has authority to make disciples except believers in Jesus Christ.
  • Making disciples is showing someone how to follow Jesus the same way you follow Jesus.
  • The authority of Jesus goes with you outside the walls of this church.
