Names of God

Submitted by Donnie O’Fallon
far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. Ephesians 1:21
Several years ago, I was given a calligraphy print of the names of God. I had it matted and framed and it hangs in my office.  These names were revealed by God throughout Scripture to help us understand His character.  While we may not use each name daily, we come to understand the significance of each one and the appropriate name as the Spirit prompts us when we pray.
Elohim (Powerful God)
God is the creator of all that exists and stands alone as eternal God.  This name should give you confidence as you pray.
Adonai (Lord)
He is Lord or master of the universe. You can know that He is sufficient, and thus you can freely surrender your life and your day to Him as Lord.
El Elyon (God Most High)
He is the possessor of the heavens and the earth.  He alone can provide for our needs.
El Shaddai (Almighty God)
This name reminds us that we can accomplish nothing in our own strength, but that He has abundant resources to enable us to do all the He requires.
Jehovah (I Am)
God is absolutely self-existent. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is faithful to fulfill His promises.
Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Provides)
God can be trusted with your most precious gift. You must surrender you “Isaac” (most valued possession) in order to experience the release of God’s blessing. Ask God to show Himself as “Provider.”
Jehovah Rophe (The Lord Heals)
Our circumstances never test God; they only test us. When you need physical, emotional, or spiritual healing, look to Him.
Jehovah Nissi (The Lord Is My Banner)
The Lord is a banner of victory.  Look to Him for victory over sin and temptation.
Jehovah Mekadesh (The Lord Who Sanctifies You)
As you pray this name, ask God to keep you from sin and to allow you to be used to serve Him today.
Jehovah Shalom (The Lord Is Peace)
When you are feeling agitated and insufficient, you can call upon the Lord who is Peace.
Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord Is our Righteousness)
God by nature is righteous, and therefore we commit to live by His righteous standards.  The good news is that He desires to be our righteousness as we pray for deliverance form evil.
Jehovah Rohi (The Lord Is My Shepherd)
Memorize the twenty-third Psalm, and pray various parts of it as the Holy Spirit brings it to mind.
Jehovah Shammah (The Lord Is There)
When you feel alone and need to sense His presence, call upon Him as Jehovah Shammah.
Scripture to Claim:
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Ephesians 2:9-10
