Freshly Sharpened Bouquet of Pencils Anyone?

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25

If you happened to have watched the movie You’ve Got Mail you will recognize this quote.  Tom Hanks says to Meg Ryan “Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”  Yes, fall is in the air.  Well, if you are going by the air here in Texas, in September, you certainly won’t be reminded of fall; maybe the Tropics, but not fall.  At least not yet, but it is coming.

The other elements of fall are in full swing.  School is back in session, football practices and games have commenced, and everything is back on track here at NSBC for the fall semester.  New bible studies for adults are forming with lots of opportunities for study. Youth and children’s activities have started back with high energy.  It is an exciting time of year.

I love these changes…but this is about the only time I like changes.  I am very much a creature of comfort, but seasonal changes are exciting.  I am one of the rare individuals who like walking into Wal-Mart in September and seeing the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations already out.  Yes, I know it is too early, but it ignites the anticipation!  It heralds the coming holiday season, a happy and meaningful time of the year.

As stated above, all Bible studies are back in full swing as well as the youth, children’s, men’s and women’s ministries, choir, etc.  If you are interested in plugging in but don’t know what is available, call the office and we can help you.  There are lots of coming attractions for the season ahead here at NSBC.  Our Heaven’s Handymen gather for breakfast this Saturday and then seek to assist those in need of various repairs and upkeep.  Next, our Naomi’s Feast banquet when our deacons honor our widows is Thursday, September 19th.  Then, on the other end of the age spectrum, the Pole Vault Rally is here on September 25th at 7 pm in the Worship Center.  It is an awesome event where youth from all over the city join together in one worship service to worship one God.  Adults are welcome to attend as well.  You don’t want to miss it.

Ignite the Anticipation!
Get excited about all the new studies and ministry opportunities for you this season.  Sign up for the Bible Study you have wanted to go to.  Next month we have the Craft Fair (which has sold out all booth spaces) and Trunk or Treat.  In November we gather for our annual Agape Dinner and, of course, in December we have all the “normal” stuff like Hanging of the Green, Christmas on the Square, the Choir Christmas Production, Carols, Candles, and Children, Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and many more.  I am sure I have missed some events.  North Side Baptist Church is an exciting place to be with lots of action.  It was once said to be “the most interesting place in town.”  I think it still might be!  Come see for yourself!

Scripture to Claim:
And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts…
Acts 2:42 – 47
