Remember Our High Priest


Hebrews 4:14-16

Today we come to The Lord’s Table to remember.  “Do we really understand the significance of this ordinance of worship?”  The writer of Hebrews shares important information for anyone who has received salvation through Christ about who Jesus really is.

The depth of any religious experience is directly related to the level of understanding of the worshipper.

 I.    Remember Who Jesus Is  Hebrews 1:2-5


Jesus is the Messenger of God

Jesus is the Son of God

Jesus is the Second part of the Trinity


·         Sustainer of the world

Jesus is Our Savior from Sin

Jesus is Reigning on High with the Father

II.     Remember He Died in Our Place.  He is Our Substitute

Jesus’ Humiliation


The Necessity of His Humiliation – Philippians 2:6-8


The Extent of His Humiliation – Hebrews 2:9a


The Purpose of His Humiliation – Hebrews 2:9c

III.    Remember He Is Our Eternal High Priest
Hebrews 2:17-18; Hebrews 7:23-27 - -


The great requirement of God was the blood of the perfect sacrifice. Hebrews 9:22


Jesus did an eternal work in an eternal tabernacle.
Hebrews 9:23-28 


IV.    Remember He Is a Sympathetic High Priest Hebrews 4:12-16


When I feel that someone understands me, listens to me and knows me, then I feel accepted.


Only one who has not yielded to temptation can know the full intensity of it.


The presence of Jesus, our great and compassionate high priest, assures us of God's mercy and grace.
