We Proclaim Him

Colossians 1:13-29

Evangelism, the sharing of the "good news" that Jesus Christ has made provision for the sins of men, is the responsibility of every believer. Utilizing each spiritual gift, God mobilizes the church into a mighty army performing the work of redemption.

I. The Persons of Evangelism - v.13-27A. God – creating the plan v.13, 19-20
B. Christ – performing the plan v.13-23
C. Christians – receiving and sharing the message v.24-27
God has used all of history to reveal Himself to man.
Our part is to reveal the mystery and tell the story of Jesus.

The Mysterion -
· This Secret in you is an Ancient One.
· This Secret in you is now a Revealed One.
· This Secret in you is a Transforming One.

Our salvation is inside-out, not outside-in.

II. The Program of Evangelism - v.28a-cA. Preaching - "we proclaim Him"
Salvation is in a person, not a message.
B. Warning - "admonishing every man"
The gospel shared without urgency is not fully understood.
C. Instructing - "teaching ...with all wisdom"
The truth about God is deep and requires growing into understanding.
III. The Purpose of Evangelism - v.20-22, 28d;
2 Corinthians 5:14-21

A. Reconciliation with God - v.20-22

Without the "word of reconciliation," one could neither know of reconciliation nor attain it.

The apostles were the "ambassadors for Christ,"
2 Corinthians 5:20

B. Discipleship – Maturity in Christ - v.28d
IV. The Power for Evangelism - v.29A. Man’s Intense Labor v.29a
B. God's Effective Energy v.29b

Powerful evangelism is merely sharing the Good News
about Jesus and His gift with enthusiasm and wisdom.
