Promises of God Part V

Adapted from Always True by James McDonald

"No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me," declares the LORD.  Isaiah 54:17

This week we started a series of devotions based on God’s promises that He has made to us throughout the Bible:

The first promise is God is With Me (I Will Not Fear)
The second promise is God is Always in Control (I Will Not Doubt)
The third promise God is: God is Always Good (I Will Not Despair)
The fourth promise is: God is Always Watching (I Will Not Falter)
The fifth promise is: God is Always Victorious (I Will Not Fail)

What greater promise do we need that the one above in the scripture?  No weapon formed against you will prosper.  A weapon is an instrument of battle used either to defend or bring harm.  This promise gives me such strength and confidence that I feel like I can conquer anything!  And what should I be afraid of?  Nothing!

There are all kinds of weapons being formed against us every day.  They don’t shoot bullets or have sharp points, but they are often more painful than any of these weapons.  God’s Word and His promise can stand against any of these weapons.  We can have Holy boldness in our struggles because we know He goes before us, stands beside us and walks behind us in battle.  The victory is His.  Fear, failure, doubt, despair, faltering…all of these weapons that come against us in spiritual battles can be rendered weak and ineffectual in our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Your faith in God and your obedience to His Word will arm you for every battle.

Jesus came to earth to defeat sin and death – our ultimate enemies and He has already won that battle.  How does that make you feel to know that He has already won the victory?  He lives within us to give us daily victories.  These every day struggles may not be huge battles, but these little victories – the ones we win every day with His help – are the ones that are the hardest to fight for.  These are the battles that drag us down, make us weary.  We fight them every day, over and over and it is by the power of God and His promises that we overcome.  He told us in John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation.  But take heart; I have overcome the world.  By dying on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins and rising from the dead, Jesus defeated sin and death, our ultimate enemies.  These victories have already been won.  However, as long as we live on earth, battles will still go on in individual lives, families, neighborhoods, cities and countries.  We live in a spiritual war zone.  Ephesians 6:12 says, We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.  Jesus lives within our hearts to give us these daily victories over sin and evil.  It is more than just getting though one battle or crisis.  It is walking in faith and victory with Jesus at our side every step of the way.

For Christians, the final victory means spending eternity with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Jesus will reign over His kingdom and those who belong to Him will rule with Him.  The major battles of your life have been fought and won.  You have only to make the journey with confidence and faith in the great promises God has made.

Scripture to Claim
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.  Romans 16:20
