Building an Effective Prayer Life

Daniel 6:10
Learning to pray and establishing a personal prayer life are vital to the Christian life. In this brief excerpt from the life of Daniel, we see the essential ingredients of a strong prayer life.
  • The single most important factor in growing to Christian maturity is prayer.  It is the difference in Christianity being a form and a force.
  • While many churches are birthed in prayer, few are bathed in prayer.
  • Prayer is the bringing together of Divinity and Humanity.
  • Divinity plus Humanity = Supernatural   What is not supernatural will be superficial.
  • People are willing to go, teach, preach, sing or do most anything before they will spend time in earnestprayer.
 I.     We Must Establish the Habit of Prayer   …as he did aforetime
  • Our life is not to be lived at the mercy of moodspressures, or crises.
  • The Christian's motto ought to be: "Life is precious; handle it with prayer."
  • You can do more than pray after you have prayed, but you can't do more than pray until after you have prayed.
  • Habits create our character.
II.     We Need to Find a Place for Prayer  he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem)
  • Prayer is never to be for religious display only, but for communion with God.
Dealing with Distractions When You Pray:
  • Pray out loud
  • When you pray out loud, you reveal the things of your heart to your mind.
·Use a prayer list.
  •  Keep a notepad and pencil handy.
III.     You Need a Set Time for Prayer  three times a day
  • It is the disciplined prayer in our lives that grows us far more than crisis prayer.
IV.     You Need to Get on Your Knees  he continued kneeling on his knees
  • If prayer is humbling ourselves before God. Then surely kneeling is the best posture for prayer.
    V.     We Need to Do More Than Ask  and gave thanks
  • Jesus taught the disciples to pray by first acknowledging the holiness and person of God.
  • Prayer should include silence; listening to God.
