8,760 hours in a year… What will you do with yours?

 Monday, January 11, 2021

Be very careful, then, how you live not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Ephesians 5:15-17

8,760 hours in a year… What will you do with yours?

That is a lot of hours. Time passes so quickly and the older we get, the faster it goes. We waste a lot of those hours by procrastinating and putting off our responsibilities. Tomorrow is not our friend today. When we are young, we think we are immortal. We think we have all the time in the world and we will live forever. Then, we get older and we realize we have been tricked. Time seduces us into believing that it is the one friend who will never run out on us, but the cruel truth is that it always does, and it does faster than we realize.

It would not be unfair to say that time lies to us. It tricks us into believing that we can wait until tomorrow to do the thing we should have done yesterday. We can talk ourselves into putting off anything we don’t want to do. We can come up with a dozen good reasons and excuses, but we are never doing ourselves a favor by ignoring priorities.

The most important things in life require that you bring your own urgency, and sometimes even good things can make demands. We can waste a lot of time in life just spinning our wheels, doing all “the things”, and going to all the events. We think we enrich our children’s lives by signing them up for art class, music class, ballet, gymnastics, soccer, and baseball. But are we enriching their lives by becoming, and teaching them to be a slave to their calendar? Are we doing the very best thing by over-filling their schedule and ours too, creating feelings of frustration and tension and stress? More is not always better.

But there are just 8,760 hours in a year. We do want to make the most of every opportunity, so what are we to do?

The most important thing is to Understand What the Lord’s Will Is  ...do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is

Have you thought about what God’s will is for you in this New Year? Do you think He wants your calendar so crowded that you don’t have time for the important things.Do you think He wants your mind so saturated with worries and anxieties that you can’t think spiritual thoughts? Already this year has brought some anxious moments for our country. Satan wants us consumed with worry but God wants us to trust Him.

Establishing priorities and gaining direction and control is the first step for living successfully today. Every day you get up without a personal goal, plan and direction you will merely be a puppet on someone else’s stage. Understanding what the Lord’s will is for your life will lead to being able to establislh right priorities in your life.  Spend some time seeking His will for your life and His will for this year for your life. Every moment is priceless. How does God want you to use your 8,760 hours in 2021?
