What I Forgot

Submitted by Lara Cook

Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.  Jeremiah 32:17

I love living in the country. Being away from the city, all the lights, all the noise.  The still, quiet, beautiful countryside can provide peace like nothing else.  The night sky away from the neon lights of the city is breathtaking.  A few nights ago, I was outside late when I happened to glance up and it took my breath away.  The vastness and beauty of the night sky reminded me instantly of the one who created it.  I immediately felt a little ashamed because I felt like I was seeing it with the awe and splendor of the first time.  I have been so busy lately I have forgotten to look up and behold the might and power of our God.
It is so easy to become distracted and preoccupied with life, especially when everything is going well. The minute calamity comes calling, God has all our attention.  That night outside under that beautiful sky reminded me of God’s power, and His hand in my life.  It is nice to remember that sometimes when we are not in the middle of a crisis, when we are not hyper-ventilating and crushed in despair, but to breathe a sigh of relief and rest in His majesty.  God, who has the power to create the universe, holds my life in His hands and cares about it all – the big stuff and the small stuff.
The night sky and its splendor remind me of His power and majesty.  I could sit for hours just drinking it in.  Look up, look around, take a moment and look at God and His majesty in your life. He is there, waiting for you to remember.

Scripture to Claim:
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Psalm 8:3-4
