How God Can Use Our Devastation, Isolation, and Humiliation

When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." Then He said, "Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." Exodus 3:4-5

How God Can Use Our Devastation, Isolation, and Humiliation

There are three things that tend to get our attention: Things that we VALUE; things that THREATEN us; and finally, things that are UNUSUAL. God called to Moses from a bush that would not be consumed by fire. Gods call to a commitment of his life to the task He wanted of him, literally changed the course of History. This encounter re-directed his life. Moses was being move by the hand of God, without knowing it, to experience God and to a call of commitment.

The same circumstances that led Moses to that moment to that moment perhaps has a parallel in your life. Maybe it’s an initial meeting you’ve had with Jesus Christ? Perhaps it’s a fresh encounter you’ve recently had with God?

The definition of COMMITMENT is: “A willful act or choice/act of the laying down of one’s life before someone or something .. it is yielding or entrusting one’s life to a higher purpose or cause for greater good.” This level of commitment is based on Christian maturity, faith and maturity. I believed you call be saved and never reach this level of Christian maturity. The living God always takes the initiative to confront you in your life, where you to lead you to that next step of faith and maturity?

GOD MOVES IN A PROGRESSIVE PREPARATION TO REVEAL HIMSELF. Just as He did with Moses, he does with us to bring us to Himself. You may not be conscious of His invisible hand that pushing and pulling us toward Himself. Sometimes it takes longer with some than it does with others.

   * GOD CALLS TO US OUT OF LIFES DEVASTATING EVENTS - Moses was 80 years old now. Bro. Van told us last week, Moses had experienced some devastating events in his life. He went from being a Prince in Pharaoh’s Palace in Egypt, where he fled because he killed and Egyptian, to being a Pauper and a Shepard. His Resume’ would have read, 40 years a Prince; 40 years a Pauper! What devastating event in your life is God calling to you from?

   * GOD CALLS TO US OUT OF ISOLATED EVENTS - He live for 40 years in the Palaces of Egypt and beyond the desert, HOREB = means, “dry ground or desolation, literally, he was beyond the desert or wilderness, those higher grazing pastures”. Moses was in a dry, barren, bleak place. That kind of events leaves us with a sense of loss. Out of that Isolated place, God called to Moses. Is God calling to you out of the Isolated place you’re in right now?

   * GOD WAS CALLS TO US FROM LIFES HUMILIATING EVENTS - He had a middle age crisis at age 80. He was Jethro’s assistant shepherd. Memories of Egypt had faded. His desires, dreams, and goals had been lost. Any achievements had been forgotten like water poured into the sand in the place where he found himself. Like the Prodigal Son found himself?

Devastation, Isolation, Humiliation, this was the path to Moses Burning Bush Experience, His Call to Commitment! Moses awakened that day expecting the ordinary, mundane routine but instead it was a day that changed His life and the course of history forever.

Where on this path are you right now? What kind of commitment is God calling or asking of you? Remember in John 15:16-17, Jesus says, “ You have not chosen me but I have chosen you, that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask in my Father’s name, He may give it to you. These things I have commanded you, so that you will love one another.”

PRAYER: “Father out of the Devastation, Isolation and the Humiliation in our lives, speak to us, cause of to hear voice of your Spirit and act according to Your Will.” Amen!
