Passion Week – Holy Tuesday

Tuesday, April 4, 2023

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. Matthew 23:27-28

Passion Week – Holy Tuesday

Passion week is the week before Easter - the last week of Jesus’ life on earth. It begins with the Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem with crowds of people waving palm branches and yelling “Hosanna” as He passes. It ends with those same people yelling “Crucify Him.”

Holy Monday - Jesus cursed the fig tree and cleansed the temple.

On Tuesday morning, Jesus and his disciples returned to Jerusalem. They passed the withered fig tree on their way, and Jesus reminded them about the importance of faith.

Jesus goes back to the Temple where He is bombarded with questions and riddles by the religious leaders, who were trying to trap Him had organized an ambush with the intent of having Him arrested. He saw through their ploys and responded: Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. Matthew 23:27-28

After that, Jesus left the city and went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives, which sits on a hill overlooking Jerusalem. Here Jesus gave the Olivet Discourse, an elaborate prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the age. He uses parables and symbolic language about the end times events, including His Second Coming and the final judgment. Then once again, Jesus and the disciples returned to Bethany to stay the night.

Sunday is coming - pray that your One will be curious about Easter and if you have the opportunity, tell them about why Easter is special to you.

Who’s Your One Prayer Guide Day 31

And they sang a new song: You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and you purchased people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation. REVELATION 5:9, CSB

God, You are worthy of the worship of all people. You created all things for Your glory and made every person who has ever lived to proclaim Your excellence. This is true of __________, as well. When I read John’s picture of the worship of every tribe, tongue and nation in heaven, I picture __________  among that group. Save him/her, so he/she would join in the chorus of those who praise You as worthy. As I seek to share with __________, burden my heart for all people around the world who do not know You. Save __________ and use him/her to declare Your glory among the nations as well.
