For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, so that you may have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light. He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:9-14
A Good Plan for A New Year
Today we get to start another new year. While we cannot erase the past, we get to decide how we move forward. These verses from Colossians 1 prove to be a great application for us to apply to our lives as we begin again.
…be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding:
Make it a priority to be filled with his knowledge and wisdom in spiritual understanding this year. Spend time with him every day in prayer and Bible study to deepen your understanding and relationship with him.
…so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him:
When your understanding and relationship deepens with God the natural result will be walking worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him. Bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, so that you may have great endurance and patience will also be a natural result of a deeper and intentional relationship with him.
…joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light:
Make it a point to joyfully give thanks to the Father in all things, in all circumstances, at all times. We can be thankful always because no matter what our circumstances are here on earth, we have been enabled to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light. Our future as an heir to the King of Kings is secured no matter what. We will have hardships, illness, tragedy, but he promises that we can take heart because he has overcome it all. In him we can find comfort, peace, and security. Because of this we can always joyfully give thanks.
He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
We have been rescued from the domain of darkness, been made a part of his kingdom, redeemed and forgiven. Our chains have been broken and we have been freed from the prison of darkness and sin. Live like it! Walk every day in the freedom, light, and inheritance he has given us.
How will you choose to move forward into another new year? As you begin a new year today make these verses the guideline for your life.
Happy New Year!
