How To Witness Effectively

By Donnie O’Fallon

One day Jesus as walked by the sea of Galilee He saw two men, Simon, called Peter and Andrew, his brother.  These fishermen, Jesus called to them saying, “Follow me and I will make you to become fishers of men…” (Matthew 4:19).

Soul winners are made, not born. Therefore, to be an effective witness, you must be taught, trained, and motivated by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus took three years to teach and train His twelve Disciples in the art of soul winning. After His resurrection He instructed them to stay in Jerusalem and,” wait for the promise of the Father,” the power of the Holy Spirit to come upon them, (ACTS 1;4-8). When His disciples had asked Jesus if the time had come for Him to restore the kingdom of Israel, He answered, “It’s not for you to know times nor seasons which the Father has put into his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, in all Judea, and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.”

On the day of Pentecost, the hundred and twenty received the power to witness; and any believer who will acquire the know-how, can be an effective soul winner.

We can know that we are a witnessing team with the Holly Spirit . “And we are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN TO THOSE WHO OBEY HIM,”(Acts 5:32; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20).When you and I witness, we must trust the Holy Spirit to do three things:

  •  Illuminate the mind of the unbeliever. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
  • Stir the heart of the unbeliever. (Acts 2:37)
  • Move the will of the Unbeliever.  (Luke 15:18)

This summer there will be an Effective Witness Training on Wednesday evenings where we will learn to use these questions to develop a plan for witnessing:

1.    What’s My Story and Where Did it Begin;

2.    What Do You Think It Takes Get A Person to Heaven

3.    God’s Plan Of Salvation

4.    Using A Marked New Testament

5.    Follow Up and Follow Through

We will follow this outline:

The Importance Of Witnessing – (Romans 10:13-17).

The Qualifications Of A Witness – (Col. 2:6-7).

The Approach – (John 1:40-42).

The Follow – Through –(Matthew 13:3-8;18-23).

How To Share God’s Plan Of Salvation – (Acts 4:12), The Man Of Salvation.

How To Extend The Invitation – (Rev. 22:17), Receiving The Man Of Salvation.

How To Follow Up – (Acts 2:41- 47), The First Step To Following Jesus In Believers Baptism

We are all evangelists. We live out a testimony with our lives to everyone around us. It is up to us to decide what message we live in front of others.
