A Conversation With God

 Friday, November 6, 2020

With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.  Ephesians 6:18

A Conversation With God
Sunday Brother Van talked about a book by Bob Beaudine titled 2 Chairs. The idea of the book is to have a one on one conversation with God daily, with you sitting in a chair and facing an empty chair occupied by God. Then, talk to God as you would a friend or family member sitting in the chair across from you. He offers three questions to consider before prayer:

QUESTION #1: Does God know your situation?  Yes! Let’s be honest, the firs thought many of us have when life gets uncomfortable is “Where is God?” Does He see what is happening? Does He know what I am going through? The answer is yes, He always knows exactly what is happening in our lives. Again, this is another time we have to remember what we know because we cannot trust our emotions in the middle of this life that leaves us feeling desperate and hopeless sometimes.

QUESTION #2 Is it too hard for Him to handle?  No! Our Heavenly Father, the King of Kings, is perfectly capable of handling every single thing that happens in our lifetime. No matter how overwhelmed and shocked we are, He is never overwhelmed or surprised by anything that happens to us.  We can bring every request to Him resting in the fact that nothing is too much for Him. We can leave it all in His hands and walk away knowing that He will work everything out for our very best.

QUESTION #3 Does He have a good plan for you?  Yes! Our God knows our situation, He is more than capable of handling it, and He does have a plan for you. No matter what you have done that you think has ruined your life, He still has a plan, and He will work everything in your life for your good and His glory. He makes a beautiful mosaic of our lives, pieces of broken bits perfectly fit together with whole pieces. He wastes nothing and surprises us by sometimes using the things in our lives that we would least suspect as useful, yet part of HIS plan all along.

One More – Why Would He Want to Listen to Me? The answer to this is because He loves you. When you feel like you don’t deserve anything, He loves you. When you feel like you have messed up and you can never be fixed, He loves you. No matter what, He loves you. And it is always His desire to have a relationship with His children – no matter what!  He should be our first call, our safe place, our hiding place, our best friend. He wants that from us. He wants us to come to Him for everything. He wants a relationship with us and you cannot have a relationship with anyone without conversation. Deep, honest, baring your soul conversation.  He sees it all anyway, He just longs for us to bring it, let it go, lay it down, and leave it with Him.

Right now, we all have plenty going on in our lives. We have COVID still nipping at our heels, we have riots still breaking out, we have a crazy election going on, and that doesn’t even include all our personal stuff. Add that on the pile and that is a whole lot to handle. I don’t know about you, but I am weary to the core. I am really tired right now of trying to carry it all. The good news is that we don’t have to. Don’t fight this. Don’t keep dragging it with you everywhere you go, weighing yourself down. Our hearts can’t handle it, and they weren’t made to. We have a Holy Spirit to help us bring it to the one who can. Spend some time with Him today. Tell Him how you feel, what your fears are - and what your dreams are too, because He wants it all.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive
mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
