I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:17b-19
A Love That Knows No Bounds
What does it feel like to be loved by God? Do you ever stop and think about it? If you do, you will feel overwhelmed by the enormity of this concept. Or do you think that God could never really love you because of all your faults and failures?
God gave His son for the redemption of a world that was full of people with faults and failures. He did not give His Son for those who are spotless and perfect because there is no such thing except Jesus Himself. He loved us so much that, in our worst condition – sinners far away from Him – He took the punishment of our sin for us. His death on the cross paid for our redemption and that is the greatest love gift ever given. He did that before we even acknowledged He existed. He did it for the good and the bad. He doesn’t love one and hate the other. He does not just tolerate us a little or love us a little, he loves us with a love that knows no bounds.
Length – God’s love is long enough to last forever. It is eternal. It knows no bounds. It never runs out. It is everlasting despite our failures and Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever. Psalm 136:26
Width – God’s love for us is wide enough to embrace the whole world. It is global and can save anyone. He does not pick and choose, or discriminate. It is wide enough to cover every sin and circumstance of our lives. For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Height – God’s love is high enough to take sinners to heaven. His love transcends all of our failures and sin. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4
Depth – God’s love is deep enough to reach the lowest of sinners. Everyone is loveable by God. No one is too far gone or without hope ever. Who do you know that seems so far gone that they will never return to a relationship with Jesus? Pray for them. Pray that they will know that God does love them no matter what and that any time they are ready to repent and turn to him and make him Lord of their lives he is ready and waiting. He will take them and never turn them away.
But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
…and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
The love of God is more than a feeling. It is faithfully believing that when we don’t feel it, we still believe God loves us and that he will never stop loving us. There is nothing we could do to ever earn it, and we can never do anything to lose it. We don’t have to guess or speculate; we can know. His love surpasses all knowledge and fills us with the fullness of God, a satisfaction we can never find anywhere else. Remember God’s unfailing and everlasting love for you today and let his love flow through you to others around you.
