month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
During this month our fellowship
recognizes a very special group of people on
Sunday, October 27th ...our Cancer Survivors.
We continue our series on:

Commitment Calls for Courage
Have I not commanded you? Be strong
and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you
wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
For the one battling dangerous or even life-threatening cancer, the
recommendation of treatment calls for a decision on their part to begin the
battle for their life. Such a decision
requires a deep commitment and great courage.
Courage is defined as –
- Mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand
danger, fear, or difficulty
- The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face
difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery
Heroes come in all sizes and shapes.
Some are old, others young; some are physically strong, others weak; but
there is one common denominator...they have the same heart. The cancer survivor who has faced the pain
and true agony of treatment knows what courage is when they show up for the
second, third, fourth, or subsequent treatment knowing the cost.
Maybe you are dealing with a difficulty in your life that is calling for
a commitment on your part which will cost you a great deal. Possibly it is demanding a tenacity of both
spirit and will which you are fearful of being able to attain.
Courage is not without fear. Fear occurs
when we measure the challenge against our strength. Courage on our part is boldness in the face
of fear. Courage is not required where
our strength and resource is equal to the challenge. Being courageous is claiming more than your
own power to conquer and walking against the fear and doubt that causes others
to cease to fight.
May all who fight be imbued with courage wrought through FAITH IN GOD. “If He brings you to it, then He will bring
you through it.” The problem
develops when we forget Who brought us there and feel we are the ones in
charge. God has not called us to test
our strength, but His. Our cancer
survivors remind us regularly to never question the power of our God to
deliver!
Let’s learn the lessons of those who have walked this way before and
keep our commitment with courage.
