We Are Chosen

…just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him in love.   Ephesians 1:4

How do you feel about the New Year?  Are you approaching it with apprehension or anticipation?  Paul gives us some reasons to get excited about the prospects for the year ahead.   Yesterday we learned that reason number one is that we are blessed.  Today we will continue with more reasons to view the coming year with anticipation.

Verse 4 says that we have been chosen by Him – chosen by God!  Before the world began, Holy God, the creator of the universe, chose us!

It is hard to get our minds around an idea so powerful? We, as believers, have been chosen. What a beautiful word that is - chosen.  Can you remember the agony of not being chosen?  Were you ever the last to be chosen for kickball?  Are you the girl who did not make the cheerleading squad?  Did you ever sit on the bench while someone else got the glory?  Well, this time you and I are not left out. We have been chosen.

Being chosen by God ranks higher than any other popularity contest you may have going on.  Who is better, higher, and counts more than God?  With our selection we inherit all that God has in store for His children.  We cannot buy, earn or find what He gives only to those He chooses.

There is no question about God's ultimate will for us and that is that we shall recognize ourselves to be members of His own family.  When we realize that we are chosen from the beginning of time to be members of that family we come to see ourselves as we really are - sons and daughters of the Divine we walk with confidence and live with purpose.

Everyone in this world has a need to feel like he or she counts.  Thus it is with great joy that we hear the words from the Scripture, "we are chosen!"  That is a great reason to look forward to the New Year with anticipation.  No matter what the year brings, we have been blessed and chosen.  It does not mean hard times won’t come, it just means that we have a loving God to turn to in those situations.

Scripture to Claim:
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.  Peter 2:9
