Finally,
brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever
is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any
excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8
Well, it is that time of year again. This weekend is Disciple Now for our youth
which means hundreds of youth will come together on Friday night, divide up and
go out to different host homes of area churches and people in our church who
have so very graciously agreed to host a group of rowdy teens in their
homes. They will have Bible studies,
games and activities in their individual groups and then come together many
times for a time of combined worship.
THINK
The theme for DNOW
this year is THINK. To think means to “give careful thought to”
something. It is the discipline of dwelling
deeply with your mind”. Leaders
will guide kids to consider what they are dwelling on in their lives. Mindlessly playing video games, daydreaming,
and even reading a magazine or novel to escape reality are not good ways to use
the mind God gave us. We need to learn
to discipline ourselves to dwell on the virtues that Christ embodies. We should “think” about Jesus because He is
the truth, He judges justly and He is holy and pure. He alone is worthy of all the world’s
praise.
Matt Orth will be the guest speaker this
weekend for DNOW and he will follow
up with a sermon for the rest of us on Sunday morning as he will be a guest
speaker in both services this Sunday morning.
Matt has been in ministry for 20 years and is passionate about
discipling students and adults. His
experience has ranged from church janitor to pastor and everything in
between.
Jared Wood, son of our music minister Gary
Wood, will be providing the worship for the youth this weekend. He is an extremely talented musician with a
heart and passion for ministering to students.
He released his first full length album in 2008 and began travelling
full-time in 2011.
This is a dynamic weekend for our youth. It is a time for bonding and spiritual
growth. We will have around 125 students
participating from NSBC, 11 families hosting them in their homes, and plenty
more families providing meals and transportation known as "co-hosts". All the youth from all over Parker county
that are participating will be coming together here for a combined worship
service on Friday and Saturday night. Please
be in prayer for the youth as well as all the adults that help make this
possible. Be in prayer for the Holy Spirit to move and lives to be
changed.
Scripture to
Claim:
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond
all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him
be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and
ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
