Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not
tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 NASB
Just like Eve in the garden, we seem to
want what we shouldn’t, or can’t have.
Sometimes just the very suggestion of something being off limits makes
us drawn to it even more. We have all
been guilty at some point in our life of having the grass is greener syndrome.
That is when we become so focused on something we want but can’t have
that we spend all our time and energy on focusing on that rather than what
blessings we do have. The truth is, that once you get to the place where you
think the grass is greener, you can become disillusioned very quickly and start
looking for the next green pasture. It is easy to become consumed with the idea
that there is something better somewhere else than what we have been dealt in
life. We abandon stability, security,
satisfaction and contentment to run off looking for the ideal.
Until You
Hop The Fence…
Looks can be deceiving. Although you think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, one thing you can be sure of is that once you hop the fence, you most likely will find the ground is dry and parched underneath. It is only the enticement of the forbidden along with the deception of Satan that makes the grass appear to be something it truly is not. If we are the children of God, most likely when we plunge into the lush green grass on the other side of the fence, we find ourselves with that tell-tale feeling in the pit of our stomach. That is the “This is wrong and I shouldn’t be here!” alarm going off. That is because we belong to Him. He has claimed us as His and His imprint is on our heart. Pretty soon that lush green grass begins to feel like a thorny sticker patch. If we belong to Christ, sin will leave a bad taste in our mouths. We may finally get what we thought we wanted so bad only to find out that the excitement is gone when we realize the sin we committing against God. Conviction has a way of changing how we feel when we are in the midst of doing something we know we should not be doing.

The Grass is
Greener Where You Water It
Any good lawn needs to be maintained. There will always be wear and tear but even the dull, brown grass can become greener if you nurture it. But today my well is dry. I have watered and watered and the grass is brown. The ground is cracked. Maybe I haven’t watered “smart” or used enough Miracle Grow, but I have nothing left to give. That is what happens sometimes. A drought comes and instead of waiting for rain, it is easier to hop the fence. I urge you to wait. Wait for the rain to come and in the meantime, nurture as much as you can and water with what little drops of water you can eek out. God is faithful and He will send the rain to fill your well and water your pasture. Wait for it.
