The Lottie
Moon Christmas Offering® enables IMB missionaries to live and work at the
forefront of lostness and extend our witness through their full-time ministry. Southern
Baptists send missionaries from their churches, through IMB, to go into the
world making disciples in the name of Jesus. In that partnership, Southern
Baptists provide the funding to send and support these missionaries and their
ministries. The more resources they provide, the more missionaries can be sent.
Week of Prayer 2014
A risk worth taking
A risk worth taking
Moving a family to South Sudan, a war ground made up of daily turmoil
and strife, has been a major risk, even to the point that IMB missionary Robert
Lane calls in several times a day to assure his supervisor his family is still
alive.
Robert sees it as a risk worth taking as they follow God in obedience
to reach out to the Dinka people group, numbering nearly 3 million.
“We need to be ready for those
hardships, ready for those difficulties, ready to be used as a sacrifice for
Christ as we try to make His name famous,” Robert explains.
Robert understands the dangers based on his training time in Uganda,
where cattle raids and gunshots were not uncommon. Regardless, he pursued the
call to the country God laid on his heart more than five years ago with his
wife, Maridith, and 2-year-old son, Shepherd, right beside him.
“When you have the privilege to know somebody in his pre-Christian state
and see him [grow] as a Christian and as a father and as a husband … then you
realize there’s no price that would be too great to pay, because Christ is
worth it,” Robert says.
Pray for protection for the
Lane family and for the salvation of the Dinka people.
Pray for generous giving to
the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering to support families like the Lanes who are
willing to take the risk.
