The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man (Acts 17:24 ESV)
The Lord told the people of
Israel, that he desired an altar made out of earth, but if they were to build
him an altar of stone, it was to be stone which no tools had touched or else
the altar would be profaned (Exodus 20:24–25 ESV). In other words the altar was
to be simple so that the attention of the people would remain focused upon the
Lord and not the beauty of the altar.
This gives me great hope because,
although I want my life to be used by the Lord, I am increasingly aware of my
plainness…my earthiness. I’m not very polished. I don’t know if I’m “cut out”
(pardon the pun) to do great things for God. Yet, according to Exodus 20, it is
these kinds of doubts which makes one qualified for God’s use! The Bible says
“We have this treasure [Jesus Christ] in jars of clay…” (2 Corinthians 4:7
ESV). I don’t think any of us are fancy vases. We’re just plain old jars, boasting
not of our exterior, but of the contents we hold within. If you don’t feel
capable to share, witness, teach, or minister, you are an ideal candidate for
God’s use because God will get the glory, and not you.
Scripture to Claim:
And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called
he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified (Romans 8:30
ESV).
