Philippians 3:12-16
Do you have a spiritual goal for your
life? Is your spiritual journey more of a wandering experience than a purposed
direction? Paul reduced the purpose of his life to a few short phrases. Our
lives can also be radically changed by stating with Paul, “…but one thing I do:”
Establishing priorities
is essential in moving forward in life.
The need for change
is evidenced by our weaknesses. v.12
When
you gave your life to Christ, He took it and now longs to
make it what He desires it to be.
make it what He desires it to be.
Our lives can be radically
changed by...
I. Forgetting what lies behind v.13b
A. To avoid spiritual pride
The past is
a rudder, not an anchor. It guides rather than holding
back progress.
B. To avoid spiritual complacency
God is not so concerned with where
you have been or what you have done as He is where you ARE, what you are
DOING and where you are GOING. He
is a God of the PRESENT.
Two major
problems in Christian perseverance:
1.
Discouragement
leading to Defeat
They are called "skeletons
in your closet" because they are dead and need to be buried.
2.
Overestimation
leading to Complacency
It is hard to move forward
when you feel like you have already
arrived.
arrived.
II. Pressing forward to what lies
ahead v.13c
A. To receive more from God than we've received
B. To discover purpose and fullness in life
Discipleship
is aggressive, not passive.
III. Pressing on toward the goal of Christ
-
Likeness v.14
A. To live in continual victory
B. To realize continued spiritual growth
These three steps are actually “one
thing”...
COMMITMENT.
COMMITMENT.
