“Wonderful Counselor”
Isaiah 9:6
Isaiah 9:6
When the prophet Isaiah spoke about the one who was coming to
deliver the people of Israel, he listed four names that would be used to
describe what He would do. As we look at
these names over the next few weeks it may help us to answer the question as to
whether we still need a messiah. Today
we look at the first of those names. Do
we need a Wonderful Counselor?
I. The Need of a Counselor - Isaiah 8:19-22;
9:2-4
Life is bigger than any one
person can handle alone.
It is dark in America. The soul of America is deeply wounded.
The battleground of Satan is the mind
of man. Think wrong and you will be
wrong.
Hope is to be found in a person
and a personal relationship with that person.
II. The Nature of This
Counselor is “Wonderful.”
The Hebrew word for wonderful is “pela” which means extraordinary or miraculous.
The “natural” man is blinded to the
light of this counsel. 1 Corinthians 2:14
The world cannot understand the reasoning of the
believer who considers things from a spiritual and not a selfish
perspective. Ephesians
4:17-18
No counselor can be more effective than the One who made
you, knows you and also created the world you are living
in.
III. The Characteristics
of a Wonderful Counselor Hebrews 4:15-16
Two words draw us close to the Wonderful Counselor…Jesus
Understands!
A competent counselor does not tell you
what to do but guides you into making the right decision.
A poor counselor gives advice or opinions
and does not assist the person to understand themselves and how to apply
the right decision to their life.
The Holy Spirit is our Wonderful
Counselor and guide. John 14:16-17
