The Leper King

2 Chronicles 26

Someone has said that the human being is the only animal that you can pat on the back and his head swells up. Uzziah started believing his own press clippings and his pride led to a fall. In one moment he ruined a prosperous lifetime as a successful king.

The Bible is not a book about strong men.  It is a book about weak men and a strong God.

The Inauguration of Judah’s King Uzziah - v.1

The Profitable Reign of Judah’s King Uzziah - vv3-15

·       Uzziah was influenced by godly people  vv3c-5c

More than parents would want their children listening to them they would desire for them to be hearing from God.

·       Uzziah was a great military conqueror.  vv6-8

·       Uzziah provided the people physical security.  v9

·       Uzziah built a great economy.  v10

·       Uzziah designed powerful weapons of war.  vv11-14

·       Uzziah was a popular king.  v15b

But when he became strong, his heart was so proud that he acted corruptly, 2 Chronicles 26:16a

The Character of Pride  vv16-21

Ñ     Pride begins with individual success, whether perceived or real.

Ñ     Pride will take root when you forget the source of your success. v16a

Ñ     Pride leads to unfaithfulness.  v16b

Ñ     Pride will cause you to ignore boundaries. v16c

Ñ     Pride will reject God-given authority. v.17-18

Ñ     When pride is confronted, it will be angry. v19a  

Ñ     Pride will end in loss of reputation and power. v19b-21 –

The Disgraced End of Judah’s King Uzziah – v.23

1.     If God chooses to bless others through you, don’t be trapped into believing that you are the blessing.

2.     No true blessing is possible apart from the Lord God.

3.     The God that blesses is also the God who can remove those blessings.  

4.     There are few tests like the test of success.

If God blesses you with success in your life beyond your imagination, walk humbly, walk quietly, and walk gratefully in the presence of God
