Yesterday in our morning services we observed the Lord’s Supper. This is an ordinance – a sacrament, or ritual
- that we practice to remember what Jesus did for us on the cross. There
is symbolism in the bread which represents Christ’s body broken for us and the
juice which represents His blood that was shed for us.
We also do this to remember
a few other things:
- We remember who He is…The Son of God.
- We remember who we are…Sinners separated from Holy God.
- We remember His sacrifice for our sin.
- We remember His present mediation before the Father.
- We remember He is coming again.
Who is welcome to this table? Who is invited? There are guidelines we follow such as that
it is for Believers (those who have asked Jesus Christ into their heart), and
followed with baptism, or are members of this church. We are to spend time in prayer before we
partake in order to ask forgiveness and be cleansed of any sin in our
hearts. If you feel that you are a hopeless
case, that you are too far gone or too caught up in sin that you could never be
worthy of sitting at this table, then you are exactly the one He wants.
The Lord's Supper is for Believers
striving to obey Scripture. It symbolizes complete trust in the saving power
of Jesus and what He did on the cross, which means forgiveness and grace. The hopeless cases are the ones He came to
seek and to save.
If
you are a sinner…You are welcome.
If
you are broken… You are welcome.
If
you feel unworthy… You are welcome.
If you fit any of the categories
above not only are you welcome, but you are invited, you are beckoned, you are
wanted. Jesus longs for us to come to
His table. He desires we sit with Him in
communion and seek His forgiveness, grace and mercy. He longs for us to remember Him and the gift
of His sacrifice on the cross.
Don’t skip this day because you
feel unredeemable. Come to the table,
bring everything that makes you feel like you shouldn’t be there and lay it
bare, on the table. Give it to Him and
receive His grace.
Scripture to Claim:
Therefore, let us draw near with confidence to
the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in
time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NASB
