Motivating One Another

by Curtis Tucker
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (Hebrews 10:23-25, NLT)

This is a powerful passage of Scripture. Look at what the writer of Hebrews is telling us. First, we are encouraged to maintain our faith as he assures us that God can be trusted. Then he gives us a secret of how to maintain our hope and faith. We need each other. God's plan for believers is to place them within a body where they can be encouraged and motivated to follow His plan and see His purposes fulfilled in their life
We all have moments where our faith wavers, we struggle, doubts arise. Sometimes praying is not enough, we need flesh and blood people who can look us in the eye, place an arm around our shoulder, speak words of affirmation and instruction. That's why there is the church...a body of believers...we need each other.
In the New Testament we see the church meet together in temple courts and in homes. This represents corporate worship, the time for the body of Christ to come together for powerful times of worship, prayer and experiencing the presence of God together. Then "in homes" represents how relationships are built and strengthened as smaller groups get together in more intimate settings. Both are necessary so the church can motivate each other, love each other, work together for the cause of Christ, and encourage one another in all that God has called us to.
What is this passage saying to you?
Are there people that you can encourage and motivate in their walk with Christ?
Pray for God's direction to help you speak words of encouragement and motivation to the believers that are in your life, especially those that may be struggling today.
