The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Psalm 28:7
The Cure for Broken Hearts and Everything...
I have recently learned a new song called Gratitude by Brandon Lake, and I cannot stop singing it.
Chorus
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
'Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
Hallelujah
And I know it's not much
But I've nothing else fit for a King
Except for a heart singing hallelujah
Hallelujah
Bridge
So come on, my soul
Oh, don't you get shy on me
Lift up your song
'Cause you've got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord
There is so much healing in gratitude. When I’m completely at the end of myself, with absolutely nothing left to give, I still have what He wants the most – praise. Even when my heart and whole life are in such a mess, He still wants it. The King of Kings wants our heart of gratitude, even it is raw, pain filled, and messy. Even in that state - it is most fit for Him, exactly the way He wants it.
We can be thankful in the pain and suffering and eventually be thankful for the pain and suffering because, if we let it, it will always bring us closer to Him.
When I am at the end of myself, and have absolutely nothing left, I know that I still have a hallelujah in my heart that He wants. Those hallelujahs are the most precious to Him – a sacrifice of praise. And when I feel like I can’t get out of bed, or I can’t get up off the floor, I know that I can get up and worship Him and praise Him and give Him the gratitude that He deserves even in life’s hardest moments. This praise becomes a perpetual fountain to fill our empty souls with all it really needs, which is Him. It reminds me when I think I have nothing, I have everything. And for a heart that is empty, hurting, and bare, worshiping and praising him brings the adoration He deserves and the healing I need.
Gratitude takes our eyes off of ourselves and causes us to focus on Him. It opens us up and creates a lifeline between our heart and God. It helps us remember the things He has done - the promises He has kept. It gives us hope in the most hopeless situations.
When you feel like you can’t do anything else – tell your soul to get up and praise the Lord. It is the best and only thing to do when you can’t do anything else. Louder and Louder because under it all - there is a Lion waiting to give Him all the Hallelujahs He deserves.
Get up and praise Him - Lift up your song...
Even in the pain...
Even in the suffering...
Even in the unknown...
Even in the grief...
Even in the fear...
Even in the brokenness
Get up and praise Him. Let your heart overflow with gratitude and wash everything else away.
