"Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you…
Mathew 7:7
Carolyn and I had decided
to sell our farm in Bryson, Texas after owning it eight years. So, we placed it
with the same realtor that had arranged our purchase.
Two years went by with
some lookers, but no contracts. The contract with the realtor expired, the
prospects vanished, the drought occurred, the grass died, the tanks almost
dried up and the cost of hay skyrocketed to over $100.00 per bale!
I was overloaded with work
at my office, the demands on my time, civic wise, were overwhelming and it became difficult just to be able to
make the one hour drive to check on the place! I was tired, disgusted and needed relief! So…I turned to God!
Perhaps one is not to
“make deals” with his Lord, but I pleaded to Him that I had to sell that farm
and I needed to soon. I was tired, I did
not have the time and I did not have to make money on the sale, I just hoped to
break even on the deal! “Lord, if you’ll sell that place, I promise to donate $
XX,XXX.XX to my church, even if I show no gain on the sale”!
TWO DAYS LATER, the realtor called and asked if he could show the
place, even though the contract had expired. I told him certainly and he showed
it that day. The following day, we had a
contract for the asking price, no appraisal required, no inspection required, a
large cash down payment, a note receivable with a fair interest rate and the
buyers wanted to purchase the farm equipment as well as any household goods we
would leave remaining! What a deal!
We closed in just over two
weeks with a fine Christian couple that was just looking around Jack County,
Texas for a weekend retreat for their family from Midland, Texas. They had prayed to find a “house on a hill,
with a flagpole, a windmill and a barn”! Guess what? We had a house on a hill, a
flagpole, a working windmill and a barn!
The Lord had answered two
prayers from two families. I sure
honored my pledge to Him and He sure heard my plea! “Ask and you shall receive”!
Scripture to Claim:
Therefore
I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have
received them, and they will be granted you.
