Worthy of Royal Adoption

Some material taken from A King Comes From Royalty by Sam Nobles

The spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are god's children, and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—seeing that we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with Him.  Romans 8:16-17

Could we ever be worthy to sit in the King’s presence, let along be adopted into his family?  Sinful humans that we are, He still chooses to dwell in us, making our hearts His home.  He picked us, chose us, and claims us as His own.  We have been adopted by the King of Kings!  Once we are adopted by the King, we are heirs to the throne and privilege to all He offers.

He came to earth, leaving His throne in heaven, to be born a baby, the King of Kings.  He never lived as a king on earth, yet He is King over all.  He was born in a barn, not a palace.  He rode a donkey instead of riding in chariots.  He hung out with the sinners and lowly instead of other royals, scholars, and dignitaries.  He wore a crown of thorns instead of a crown of jewels.

Jesus’ family was also much different than that of other kings. His family tree might look a little like yours and mine.  He did not come from a family line of all Bible scholars, Priests, or royals.  He had some real people with real problems and faults like you and me.

There were four women in particular that were grandmothers in Jesus’ family tree.  These four women had pasts that you would not expect from anyone related to Jesus.  They were prostitutes, involved in affairs, liars, and schemers.  These four women are:

Tamar – Tamar disguised herself to look like a prostitute in order to be impregnated by her dead husband’s father.  Tamar was forgiven and rewarded for the way she was robbed as a widow.

Rahab - Rahab was a gentile prostitute who lied about hiding Israeli spies in order to be spared from God’s judgment.  Rahab was spared from the judgment of God because she risked everything to protect God’s people.

Ruth - Ruth was a gentile woman from Moab who was not able by Jewish Law to enter into the congregation of the Lord.

Bathsheba - Bathsheba (mentioned as the wife of Uriah) was an adulteress, infamous for her sin with David.  Bathsheba was forgiven and gave birth to the wisest man God ever created – Solomon; who spoke kindly of his mother in his writings.

You may be surprised that Jesus allowed such people to be part of His family...but Jesus always loved the unlovable, the sinner, the outcast, the ones no one else wanted.  He is still that way now.  He loves us in spite of all the issues in life that can trip us up. He is right there waiting to catch us and He desires our company and our heart.  He seeks after us to redeem us, and He never gives up on us. He knows our weakness and imperfections and no matter what your past is, no matter what you have done, when you are adopted by the King of Kings you are royalty.  We are His.  He claims us and invites us in, and we are forever a part of His royal family.
