Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for
whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. Galatians 6:7
Yesterday we learned the first spiritual law of the harvest; we reap what we did not sow. There is a positive side that the good of
others has impacted us for the better. We also learned that there is a negative
as well as we pay for the failures of those who precede us. Today we are
looking at law 2:
We Reap in the Same
Kind as we Sow
Really what this means is that what you get out of life depends on what
you put into life. If you want to live
with no regrets, the decision to do so starts before the choice presents
itself. You must begin with the end in
mind. What kind of life do you want?
- First, we must
plant what we need - Financially, socially, emotionally and
spiritually. We cannot expect to
harvest what we do not plant.
- Second, we must
begin to see the end result of our sowing and consider if it is worth
planting. This applies to the physical, emotional and spiritual realms of
life.
- Third, we must
understand that the true nature of the seed we have scattered will surely
be revealed.
Each of us by our thoughts, attitudes, and actions is constantly
planting for a future reaping. Time may pass before the crop ripens, but the
harvest never fails. But man has uncanny ability to think, "This doesn't apply to me." Have we forgotten the law of
the harvest - "Do not be deceived . . ."
To be deceived means to be lead astray or away from the truth God is
striving to impart into our lives. It is
expressed in the continuous present tense that says each of us are constantly
in danger of the enemy leading us astray. Satan loves to whisper in our ears, "This doesn't apply to you … you will
not die!"
Remember what the word says … "God is
not mocked." Mocked means to turn up the nose at, to treat
with contempt, to ridicule. We can
ignore and stick our nose up in the air to God's truth and laws … but we will
reap what we sow.
If we sow to the
flesh we will reap the forces of corruption. In other words, if we choose sin we will reap
the consequences of sin. No one is
exempt. No one can escape it. As Christians, we tend to believe we can get
by with a little sin and no one will ever know or be affected by our own secret
sin. But this is not true because even if no one else ever knew besides you and
God, there are still consequences to be paid.
There is the worst consequence – a separation between you and God. And there are scars to your heart that sin
always leaves. Do
not be deceived…. Do not
believe the lie of Satan that you can escape the clutches of sin
unscathed. He wants you to believe it
just like he wanted Eve to believe it and he will work hard to hook you. Facts are facts and the facts are:
- We cannot sow
lies and produce truth.
- We cannot sow
sin and produce holiness.
- We cannot sow
discord and produce unity.
- If we sow to
the Spirit we will reap the forces that lead away from sin.
Through Christ we now have the ability to sow what is right and
therefore to reap a great harvest in all areas of life. We must begin with the
end in mind.
