“I didn’t say that to hear my head rattle.”
Ephesians 4:25-31
You may not have realized that some of the momisms that your mother raised you with had a very direct scriptural basis. This passage shares some very important guidelines for living.
The purpose of a mother is not to make happy children but successful adults.
A person is not an adult until they can take full responsibility for their own life. It has nothing to do with age.
I. “If you are lying to me you will regret the day you were born!” v25a
Children who lie slip into lives of manipulation and deceit.
Guilt says, "I did bad" - Shame says, "I am bad."
Home…is
where I go to sort out the stuff in my life and
where I can admit my greatest weakness or failure and still feel accepted.
II. “Who Made You the Queen of Sheba?” v25b; 31
Life is relationships. You will fail in life if you do not know how to relate to yourself, others and God.
Consideration regards other’s needs, desires and rights as equal to my own.

Narcissistic individuals believe that the world “owes” them, and they want to collect NOW.

III. “Stop Crying or I will Give You Something to Cry About v26-27, v31
Depression = Anger turned inward
Anxiety = The repression of a truth about life
Emotions are barometers of our inner feelings.
“The problem is not the feeling; it is the action out of it.”
IV. “Don’t Make Me Ask You Again” v28a
Responsibilities = identity = self-esteem.
Boredom = Not taking responsibility for personal happiness
V. “Do You Know How Many Children in the World Are Starving?” v28b
The value of my life is best discerned in my benefit to others, not how many I can control.
VI. “If You Can’t Say Anything Nice, Don’t Say Anything at All!” v29
When it comes to your self-worth, listen to those who listen to you.
VII. You Better Hope God Gets to You Before I Do.” v.30
Even more than I want my children to learn to listen to me and obey, I want them to listen to God.
The absence of spiritual power in our world is a primary cause for the destruction of lives by addictions.
