1 Chronicles 4:9-10
At birth something caused the mother of Jabez to have an ominous feeling
about the future for her son. She named
him Jabez which translates, “one who
causes pain” or, “to grieve or be
sorrowful.” While the mother of
Jabez may not be the poster child of motherhood, the prayer of Jabez contains
the very things a mother would pray for her child. Is it not possible that the
mother of Jabez could have taught him how to pray to avoid what she felt was
facing him in life?
A Mother’s
Heartfelt Prayer…
I. God, Bless My Child … bless
me indeed
To bless someone is to invite God’s favor
on them.
A mother desires that her children feel
blessed.
·
To
be blessed is to feel valued and loved.
·
To
be blessed is to know uniqueness and have identity.
·
To
be blessed is to feel secure and safe.
II. God, Help My Child be Significant … enlarge my territory
“Significant”: having meaning,
influence or effect; important
A child who feels significant feels capable
and can accomplish great things.
III. God, Keep
My Child In Touch With You … that Your hand would be with me
Every mother should desire that their
child be a spiritual individual.
Parents are often uncomfortable
talking about weakness...and that is what talking about real faith
is all about.
When left without spiritual
power, the weakness of human nature consumes its host.
IV. God, Keep My
Child Safe ... that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause
pain
Home is the place I go to sort out the
"stuff" in my life.
Nobody can do prevention to or
for your family.
Parents lecture logically and
kids listen emotionally.
Children are receptors and reflectors.
80% of all behavior is modeled
behavior.
Live what you want them to learn.
V. God, Answer
My Prayer ... So God granted him what he requested.
