And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying,
"Oh, that You would bless me indeed…

What comes to your mind when you hear someone talking about the blessings of God? Do you think about getting more material objects such as cars, boats, clothes, shoes, houses, etc.? To bless means - to invoke divine favor upon; to bring the benefits of God upon. To bless in the biblical sense means to ask for or to impart supernatural favor. Asking to be blessed is asking for the unlimited and unfathomable riches of God's goodness to be laid upon our lives … that take us into realms that are beyond the temporal of our lives. To seek the blessings of God has nothing to do with us and has everything to do with God.
The Blessing of God
- Is consistent with the person
of God
- Is accomplished by
transformation by God
- Is secured by the power of
God
- Is sustained by the presence
of God
God’s grace is a stream that we
must enter and abide in to enjoy its fruit. The blessing of God cannot be fully
experienced outside of His will. The
favor of God on our life produces the success we long for.
Go Ahead and Ask - And Recognize the One Who Blesses
We look to too many other sources,
be they family, friends, social standing or finances, for the source of our
blessings. God desires full recognition
of Himself as the source by which we long to be blessed. God says He rewards
and blesses with restoration … the one who looks to Him. The blessings of God
await those who come to Him! Hebrews 11:6
says But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God
must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek
Him.
We must believe that we are worthy
and deserving of His grace and blessings. God is able to do above and beyond
what we can only fathom. His bounty is
limited only by us, not by His resources, power or willingness to give. You and I have to believe God will certainly
bless us … when we ask Him.
