The LORD your
God will clear away these nations before you little by little. You may not make
an end of them at once, lest the wild beasts grow too numerous for you. Deuteronomy
7:22
When G od led his
people into taking the Promised Land, he did it little by little not all at
once. Had God allowed Israel to wipe out all of their enemies at one time, the
land would then become to much to manage and maintain. So God in his
omniscience allowed some of Israel’s enemies to hang around to maintain the
land and suppress the wildlife. This intentional slow pace of God wasn't just
to keep the wilderness at bay, but to teach his people to trust him step by
step.
One step at a time
is God’s way. As he leads you in your Christian growth it will be through
challenges that match your character and relationship with him. It is through a
process that God will mold and change you to be more like Jesus. God is
diligent in this process. He will not stop working in a particular area of your
life until it is under the control of the Holy Spirit. By working in this
manner Christian maturity is steady, gradual, and therefore lasting.
God does not take
shortcuts. He knows your potential because he has known you from everlasting to
everlasting. Do not become impatient while God is working on and in your life.
Obey all that you know to do and God will lead you at a pace that fits your
present character and his purposes for your life.
