He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Romans 8:32
He Pursues Us
Have you ever been pursued? What is the driving force behind a pursuit of the love of another? Is it beauty, power, or companionship? Is it revenge, hate, or control? There are many reasons someone may pursue another. Being pursued by another gives us value. Our Heavenly Father values us and pursues us too. The Bible is one big story of God’s pursuit of you and me. Most of us question “Why would God pursue me?”, and don’t feel at all worthy of this pursuit. The beautiful thing about God and His pursuit of us is that he pursues us when we are broken, desperate, and even when we reject Him.
How has God showed that He us? But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 He saw our greatest need (sinners). Condemned in our sin, hopeless in our condition, separated from life. He met our greatest need (Christ died for us) and suffered for us. The cross is the greatest expression of a love relationship.
What is our greatest expression of love for Him? There’s a lot to the saying “Actions speak louder than words.” John lays all on the line when he states that our actions validate and verify our relationship to God in 1 John 4:7. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
Loving as God loves is not natural but supernatural. It is only in the power of the Holy Spirit that we can love others the way Christ loves us. And through His Holy spirit, we can demonstrate Christ’s love to others. People may think that they know God, but John says we can have evidence. The evidence of love is loving! Love is not just an emotion; Love is a VERB. God loves! God’s love has pursued us! He continues to use us to pursue others with HIS LOVE THROUGH US.
The product of God’s love is not spiritual pride but humble service to others. That’s exactly how ourlives ought to be affecting those around us. It’s not that we love Him but that He loved us and sent His Son to make up the difference in our lives and to bring us into a relationship with Him. The love of one believer for another completes God’s love in us.
You cannot love if you do not first love God. Have you truly been born again? Do your actions build up or destroy? Do they bring life or take life away? Do people want to be around you, or do they avoid you? Do you treat others as though Christ sent them to you? Whom has Christ sent for you to learn from and love? He is at work around you all the time and is pursuing you for a relationship. Open your eyes. Look around and see who needs your love today.
The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this
the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only
begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.
