Don’t Be Discouraged By The Journey
Jesus performed many miracles when He was here on earth and seven of those included healing blind men. It is interesting to watch the actions of Jesus healing these blind men. But there was one blind man that Jesus healed gradually – not instantly. He touched him three times - He took him by the hand, offering a touch of encouragement. He put both hands on him offering a touch of enligtenment, and He put hand on his eyes offering a touch of enablement.
When Jesus got to Bethsaida, a group of people brought this blind man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him. They knew that Jesus worked miracles, that He turned water to wine, that He cast out demons, and that He healed the blind. Most likely they had seen Him heal another blind man and they were “imploring” Him to do it again. They might not have been in awe of a miracle working Savior as much as they just wanted to be entertained. The Bible tells us that the people in Bethsaida had seen miracles, but it had only hardened their hearts instead of invoking salvation and repentance. Maybe this is why Jesus chose to heal this man differently.
The men that brought the blind man wanted Jesus to do something they had seen Him do before. They wanted a repeat performance, and sometimes that is what we want too. But the truth is that Jesus never really heals any of us the same way and He never works miracles in our lives the same way. But these men were just going by what they had seen.
Jesus changed the way He healed this man. Why the change? Because Jesus healed this blind man the way he needed to be healed. It was a personal application for an individual situation. What we expect God to do is not always what He does. But we can be assured that what He does will be precisely what we need. He cannot perform the same miracle in everyone’s life, but it will be what we need at that time. If you are not blind, you do not need your eyesight restored. You need a different miracle than someone who is blind.
The first thing we need before a miracle can be performed in our lives is for a miracle to take place in our hearts. That is the first miracle we need. If our hearts are not ready, we cannot receive the true miracle He has for us. That is what happens on the journey to the miracle. If you are on a journey, waiting for a miracle, don’t discount this time. See what God is trying to do in your heart. How is He preparing you? What is He trying to teach you? Don’t be discouraged by the journey - it serves a purpose! Don’t be discouraged because God isn’t doing things the way He did them for someone else or the same way He did them in your life at a different time. Take heart, He is doing what you need right now.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
