For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
A Peace For All Eternity
These days the future seems to be looking a little grim. The media continues to paint the bleakest picture making it even that much harder to deal with. The things going on all around us and that we see in the news and social media do not bring us peace. The good news is that we are looking in the wrong place for peace and God has much better place to help us find peace.
…as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
The unseen things – Jesus, God, Calvary, Restoration, mercy, faith, trust and love – These unseen things are some of the unseen things that will give us peace. Where our faith is concerned, we often don’t have peace because we don’t have all the answers. We struggle because we want the whole plan. We don’t like taking steps in the dark but if we knew the whole plan, we would find peace in the plan instead of peace in our relationship with Him. We can have faith in God because we may not know what the future is, but we know how it all ends. We can find peace in that.
The hardships and trials that we walk through on this earth are not eternal problems, even though it feels like an eternity when we are in the middle of it. These are earthly problems, from an earth that will pass away. We belong to our Heavenly Father – our eternal Heavenly Father – who holds all the answers. We can find peace because this broken earth is not our home. So these earthly problems, while they may cripple us, they cannot take away our eternal salvation and home in heaven. They are problems that belong to a world that we are just passing through. We find peace in clinging to the living hope we have in eternal life in Him.
