You have kept count of my tossings, put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? Psalm 56:8
God is Aware of Our Every Need
When we are going through trials, it is so easy to think that God must not care about us. Sometimes we have been hurt by people, and other times our walls are falling down around us. We wonder where He is and why He doesn’t help us. But God is aware and He does care about us, more than any human on earth.
He sees it all, He hears our cries and our prayers. He knows the pain we feel in our hearts, and the fear we have about what is happening in our lives. I absolutely love the scripture above. How much more can He care about us than to know every single time we toss and turn over our circumstances and to keep every tear that falls from our eyes in a bottle? We want God to do something about our problems and when He doesn’t, we feel He has turned His back. It isn’t that He isn’t doing something, but He may not be doing what we want Him to do, as fast as we want Him to do it, and the way we want Him to do it. We may feel confusion and frustration, but God already has everything worked out. We just have to trust Him.
A proper understanding of God and His knowledge of my personal situation is all I need to know because When I know that God knows, there is nothing else I need to know. – Van Houser
Is it more important that just another person knows what you need and what you have been through or that God knows? Another person cannot give us the peace that God can. Another person cannot work miracles in our lives like God can. Only when we lay it down at His feet, and focus on Him instead of our problems, will we have His peace. We can trust Him.
David begins to focus on God instead of his problems in verses 10-11: In God, whose word I praise, In the LORD, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? Psalms 56:10-11
God is bigger than any problem we could ever face. We feel overwhelmed when hard things happen, but He is never overwhelmed or stumped by what happens in our lives. There is never a problem that we face that He doesn’t know the answer to. And when we focus on Him, the overwhelm subsides.
When you are in the midst of trials, especially ones that have been going on for a while, you have to work very hard and be very intentional about focusing on Him and not your circumstances. Figure out what it is that helps you. Time with Him in His word and prayer and meditation are a must. Maybe listening to praise and worship music helps you keep your focus on Him. Maybe it is listening to sermons or podcasts. Find whatever it is that works and be dilligent about filling your life with those things that help you focus on Him.
His love and compasssion will desroy all the fear about the circumstances of our life and the future. We can be a light in a world of darkness and fear as we live in His confidence and trust in a faithful God who cares and fulfills His promises.
Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me. Psalms 56:9
