He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. Psalm 107:9
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. John 6:35
Just as our physical bodies need nutrients and ache with hunger and thirst, our spiritual conditions also need to be fed and nurtured. If you have ever felt the desperate hunger for the word, knowledge or relationship with Jesus Christ, then you know what I am talking about. There is no hunger like the hunger for God. There is no thirst like the thirst of a parched life.
Psalm 107:9 above is an invitation from the Lord our provider who nourishes our souls with the only thing that will satisfy. He promises good things and satisfaction for the longing soul. He promises the bread of life that satisfies forever and the living water, so that we will never thirst again. These are the things that will fortify us and nourish our souls for whatever lies ahead.
The source of true satisfaction in our lives comes only from God. Our longing souls are broken and in need of His perfect nourishment and restoration – and strength for His path for our lives. We seek change. This is why we love the new year and making resolutions. We want our lives to look different than they do today. We want our lives to be different than they are today. We spend our lives – our time, our money, our resources – on all that does not satisfy. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live… Isaiah 55:2-3 Make today different. Make this week, this year different. Start now with the nourishment that He provides. He calls to us to revive us, to nourish and satisfy our hungry spirits and quench our thirsty souls. He will never leave us to wither away, but to be forever satiated in Him.
The LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:11 (ESV)
