Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. Psalm 2:10-12 CSB
What choice will you make today?
In the passage yesterday we read about how the nations raged against God because of selfish pride. We also can be guilty of raging against him when things don’t go the way we want them to, or when we are in a difficult circumstance, and we don’t feel like God is even there. We rage about many insignificant, small things. We rage against the God of all creation who holds the planets in place. We rage against the very answer to all our difficulties. God is the answer for everything.
The Psalmist, David, begins this passage by warning the kings and judges of this earth to give up their defiance and serve the Lord and rejoice. God deserves all the power and reverence and only when we surrender to him, we can know true rejoicing. We should always approach the Lord with the appropriate fear, or respect that he deserves. We are not to be nonchalant in our approach and addresses to him. We can approach him anytime, about anything, but we must always remember his holiness.
David goes on to say Kiss the Son lest He be angry. This phrase refers to an act of submission or obedience. God wants to be in a relationship with us but also wants us to recognize who he is and who we are. This act is meant to be a ruler receiving the humble kiss of someone who is inferior to him. No matter how powerful an earthly king is, he would be smart to pay respect and reverence to God.
These words are for us as well. We should never submit to anyone or anything other than God. The people who choose something or someone other than God to submit to are living in their fleshly desires and not walking The Jesus Way. We cannot be a Jesus follower and submit to something or someone other than him. We get the freedom to make that choice and it will be the most important choice we make.
To whom or what are you submitting to?
Have you made the choice to submit to something or someone other than him?
Is there something or someone that you are “kissing” other than him?
He is jealous for our hearts. He loves us and wants us to love him above all and run to him every time we need him. Blessed are all those who put their trust in him. Psalm 2:12
