The 9: Learning to Live Authentically “Gentleness”

The 9: Learning to Live Authentically
“Gentleness”
1 Corinthians 3:18-4:7 (CSB)

Key Truth: How we live will be determined by the transformation of our character.”

Main Question: How does the Holy Spirit grow the fruit of gentleness in our lives so that we might look and act more like Jesus?

1.  We have been given all things. (1 Corinthians 3:18-23)

Three areas of “all things”:

a.    A triplet of leaders (Paul, Apollos, and Cephas, or Peter)

b.    A triplet of powers related to this life (the world, life, and death)

c.     A doublet with respect to time (the present and the things to come)

2. We can be secure in our self-worth(1 Corinthians 4:1-5)

3.  We no longer have to boast(1 Corinthians 4:6-7)

- "True gospel-humility means an ego that is not puffed up but filled up.” - Timothy Keller, The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness, p. 32.

After the Message:
Read 1 Peter 5:6-7. What should our response be to God’s activity in our lives? What is his promise? What do we need to surrender to be humble and gentle toward others? Why?
